This project is finished. Please do not donate for this project.
The people do mainly live from agriculture. Other jobs are not this region. Many live from less than $1 per day.
The water supply of the large convention center is unreliable because ailing. It has supplied the living near people with water.
In the forest there is a source that has a sufficient spring flow. It was troublesome to use this water because the source is a few hundred yards uphill (25 meters altitude difference) and was overgrown with grass and reeds. This water is so clean that it can be drunk without being boiled.
Together from anamed Malawi we have assembled a tapping of a springusing local available stones and we also set a 300m long water pipeline (HDPE) for anamed center. We have also built three standpipes where water can be fetched now. Beneficiary is the population in the near by the anamed center. It can now enlarge it's educational garden with medicinal plants.
anamed stands for "Natural Medicine in the Tropics". anamed Malawi trains local people in the cultivation of tropical medicinal plants and their benefits in treating various diseases, such as Malaria, diarrhea, AIDS and cancer.
anamed Malawi is a branch of anamed international e.V. in Winnenden, Germany.
The materials for the water supply had to be transported fromLilongwe to the project place. Cement and sand were bought locally.
Project costs: about 1,100 Euro
