‍Newsletter 2023

Weinstadt, June 2023

Dear friends of Institute Water for Africa!

The LORD is with me. I will not be afraid. What can mere human beings do to me?  Ps. 118,6

God promises to give us an abundant life. He created us to live a life of growth, adventure and progress. We experience this through steps of faith. Going forward courageously. Daring to do new things. Giving up safe space ...

Fears can come quickly. Fears can stop us. Don‘t let them define you, but surrender them to God. Despite your feelings, you can choose not to act fearfully, but with love and a willingness to forgive.

For God also speaks to us:

Don’t be controlled by love for money. Be happy with what you have.

God has said, ‘I will never leave you. I will never desert you.’ So we can say boldly, ‘The Lord helps me. I will not be afraid. What can mere human beings do to me?’ (Hebrews 13,5-6)

I wish you courage and confidence through God‘s encouragement.

Kind regards, Ines Torner

‍On site in the refugee camp

From 27 March to 17 April we were on the road in Uganda.

On the first day, we had some things to do in Kampala. The next day we drove to Arua. We were on the road for 15 hours. About 55 km north is a refugee camp where about 1.4 million refugees from South Sudan are accommodated.

They have fled the war in their homeland. Many of them have been living there for six or seven years. Many children were born there and know nothing but life in the camp.

We had an evangelisation there for six days.

A 6x6 metre stage with loudspeakers and lighting was set up in the camp.
Len Lindstrom, Canadian
evangelist, had come at his own expense with his camera team. He preaches passionately and the audience absorbed his message like a dry sponge. His sermon was translated from English into Arabic.
Everyone in the refugee camp understands one of the two languages, most understand Arabic.

On the first day, about 500 listeners came. At the end of each day, many gave their lives to Jesus. Many were healed - the blind could see again, the deaf could hear again and the walking-impaired no longer needed their canes.

The good news made the rounds in camps and more people came every day. Easter Sunday was the last day of the outreach and between 3,000 and 4,000 people came.

He was blind and can see again.

Eye test: „Touch my nouse!“

He was walking disabled and now no longer needs his cane.

Every day it took us about 3.5 hours to drive from Arua to the camp and in the evening the same time again for the 55 km back to Arua. The eff ort was worth every effort.

Hospital project in Abedju, DRC

On Easter Monday, we were supposed to continue to Abedju, Dem. Rep. Congo. But unfortunately we were refused entry: the regulations for visas had changed. It is now mandatory to apply for a visa at the embassy back home. Before, visas were also available at the border. In addition, the rainy season had started about four to six weeks earlier than usual this year - earlier than ever before. So we would not have been able to carry out our planned work because of the heavy rain. Our plan was to build a reinforced concrete
reservoir
to collect the spring water and to carry out height measurements
at different places.

The shock was deep and we were about to abandon the project we had started. But then we found a solution to be able to do some of the work.

After a short technical briefi ng, our volunteer from Congo measured the heights at the project site for us and brought the results to us in Arua. This

enabled us to get a quote for the solar pump and solar panel on the day of departure. The cost of the solar pump, solar panel, including transport from

Kampala, is 19,300 Euros.

Now we have to wait until the rainy season is over - probably November / December. Then, with a visa from the embassy, we will be on our way again and hopefully take a big step forward. You can help us with that: We need your support for the purchase of the solar pump. Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Jürgen and team
