Dried out maize field

No rain during the rainy season

In Eastern Province and other parts of Zambia, it has hardly rained during the rainy season. The farmers have sown and will not harvest. The maize has already dried up.

Field irrigation against the threat of crop failure

Around 45% of the 2000 or so people in Chiteza are undernourished. The drought is hitting them particularly hard. There is already barely enough water to live on. Agriculture is therefore even more out of the question.

With your help, we want to ensure that the five hectares of fallow farmland can be irrigated. To do this, we will drill several wells and install a drip irrigation system. Drip irrigation is very efficient. It can be used to grow more fruit on five hectares than the people in the village need. The neighbouring villages will also benefit. Malnutrition will decrease. There will also be enough water for everyday life.

These are the first steps

  • Hydrogeological investigation. This allows you to see where it is worth drilling.
  • Drilling 10-inch wells
