Source capture

The spring, built by church members for the village, has served the area for generations. Due to population growth, the need for firewood and charcoal has increased; many trees have been cut down in the area. The trees have kept the seepage water in the ground. In the last five years, the amount of water at the spring has more than halved; it no longer carries water in the dry season.

The community in the church area usually gets its water from a dirty pond 5 km away from the church. There is also a dilapidated protected spring that supplies water only in the rainy season and dries up during long droughts. With a population of more than 1000, this water source can hardly supply the people in the area. Most are forced to travel an additional 3 km to the Lusumu River. Most consume the water as it is, a factor contributing to the rise of water-borne diseases in the area. The spring, built by church members for the village, has served the area for generations. Fresh Water From 80m Depth The problem can only be solved by drilling a well. This requires drilling to a depth of about 80m. This is what a previous hydro-geological survey has shown. Then a hand pump will be installed that can be used by the whole village and will provide more than enough clean water. This will greatly improve the health of the population. However, we need your help for this.We and the people in Shikunga, Kenya, are very grateful if you support the project financially. The construction time is about 10 to 14 days. The project costs about 8,300 Euros. Donate now
