Dried out maize field

Drinking Water And Irrigation for Chideza

The people of Chideza, Zambia, are suffering from an extreme drought. The rainy season failed to materialise, the harvest has been destroyed and the water shortage is threatening lives.

With your help, we can build wells and install irrigation systems to give the people of Chiteza access to clean water and fertile land.

The situation in Chideza

Two women work the hard ground with a hoe.
  • Hardly any rain: In Eastern Province and other parts of Zambia, the rainy season has been cancelled this year.
  • Withered harvests: Farmers have tilled their fields, but the maize plants have dried up due to the drought.
  • Food shortage: 20% of adults and 70% of children in Chideza suffer from malnutrition.
  • Water shortage: The water shortage makes everyday life difficult and jeopardises people's health.

Our project

  • Well construction: we will drill several boreholes to provide access to groundwater.
  • Irrigation systems: With efficient drip irrigation systems, people can irrigate their fields and thus secure their food supply.
  • Sustainable solutions: Solar pumps and panels provide a long-term and environmentally friendly water supply.
