Tractor ploughs field in Africa
Yesterday and today, a tractor was used to plough our approximately five-hectare plot of land. The tractor was hired from a company – ploughing with oxen would be far too time-consuming on this area. After a short time on the first day, there was a technical problem, but a replacement tractor was quickly brought in. This meant that work could continue late into the night. After two days of ploughing, the next stage now follows: the villagers use hoes to break up the coarse clumps of earth. This is the only way to ensure that the water from the irrigation hoses reaches the roots of the plants instead of evaporating unused on the surface.
